The Request
This feature started with a suggestion from a PitStopper user, and it is a good one.
When you plan a route, it is natural to gather lots of possible stops - water taps, cafes, viewpoints, resupply points, "maybe if I have time" detours. PitStopper makes it easy to build that long list. But when it comes to exporting, you often do not want all of it on your bike computer. You want a tidy, deliberate handful: the stops you are actually committing to for this ride.
The user already used favourites for something else, so they could not just "favourite the ones to export". What they wanted was a second, independent way to mark POIs - one whose whole job is to say "include this in the export".
That is exactly what Flagged POIs does.
A Second Mark, Completely Separate from Favourites
Flagging works just like favouriting, but the two are entirely independent. A POI can be a favourite, flagged, both, or neither - they never interfere with each other.
- Favourites ★ stay as your general "this one matters" star, with an orange ring on the map marker.
- Flagged ⚑ POIs get a bright purple ring on the map marker, and exist mainly to control what gets exported.
You will find a flag icon right next to the star wherever you already manage POIs: in the sidebar list, in a POI's popup, in the right-click menu, and in the Bulk POI Editor. Click it to flag or unflag. Selected several POIs at once? The selection bar has a flag button to flag them all in one go.
Flagged POIs are saved with your projects and survive reloads and new searches, just like favourites - so your selection sticks around.
The Payoff: "Flagged Only" Export
Here is where it earns its keep. When you export a GPX or FIT file, the dialog now has a Flagged only option:

Tick it, and only your flagged POIs go into the file. The count updates live so you can see exactly how many waypoints you are sending across before you export. Keep your full list of forty possible stops in PitStopper; send just the five you care about to your device.
A few details that make it painless to use:
- Favourites and flagged are separate toggles. Tick both and you get everything that is either a favourite or flagged - handy if you want your starred essentials plus a few flagged extras.
- Nothing flagged? You still get everything. If you tick "Flagged only" but have not flagged anything, PitStopper exports all your POIs rather than handing you an empty file - and the dialog tells you so.
- It works for GPX and FIT, and the flag also shows up in CSV exports and printable reports.
Filter the List to Flagged Only
Flagging is not just for export. There is a new flag button in the sidebar header, right beside the favourites filter, that shows only your flagged POIs in the list and on the map. It is a quick way to review your shortlist - check you have everything you need for the ride, and nothing you do not.
How to Use It
- Search for POIs along your route as usual, building up your full list of options.
- Flag the ones you actually want to take - click the purple flag ⚑ in the list, popup, right-click menu, or bulk editor.
- (Optional) Use the flag filter in the sidebar to review just your flagged shortlist.
- Export, tick Flagged only, and send a clean, deliberate set of waypoints to your device.
Thank You
A big thank you to the PitStopper user who suggested this - it is a simple idea that solves a real planning problem, and it is exactly the kind of feedback that makes PitStopper better.
Have an idea of your own? We would love to hear it.
Happy planning, and may your GPS only ever show the stops you actually meant to take.
