Turn One Route into Many
Building on our multi-route support, we've added the ability to split any route into separate segments. This is perfect for breaking down a long journey into manageable daily stages.

How It Works
Splitting a route is simple:
- Select your route - Click on it in the Routes panel to make it the active route (you'll see a glow around it on the map)
- Right-click on the map - Click at the point where you want to split
- Choose "Split Route Here" - Select the scissors icon from the context menu
That's it! Your route is now two separate segments.
What Happens When You Split
When you split a route:
- The original route is replaced with two new routes: "Route Name (Part 1)" and "Route Name (Part 2)"
- The first segment keeps the original color
- The second segment gets a new color automatically
- Distance and elevation statistics are recalculated for each segment
- Both segments share the split point (it becomes the end of Part 1 and the start of Part 2)
Perfect for Multi-Day Trip Planning
The real power of split route comes when planning multi-day adventures:
1. Start with Your Complete Route
Load your full route - whether it's a week-long cycling tour, a thru-hike, or an ultra-marathon course.
2. Split at Your Planned Stops
Right-click at each location where you plan to stop for the night. Each split creates a new daily stage.
3. Plan Each Day Independently
With separate routes for each day, you can:
- View daily statistics - See exactly how far you'll ride/walk each day and how much climbing you'll face
- Search for POIs per stage - Find accommodation, water, and food specific to each day's route
- Compare daily distances - Use the route comparison view to balance your daily stages
4. Export Individual GPX Files
When it's time to load routes onto your GPS device, export each day as a separate GPX file. No more scrolling through a massive waypoint list to find today's stops.
Tips for Effective Splitting
- Split at logical points - Towns, campsites, or natural landmarks make good stage boundaries
- Consider elevation - Try to avoid splitting mid-climb; look for flatter sections
- Split repeatedly - You can split the resulting segments again to create multiple sections
- Use Route Settings - Right-click also gives you quick access to rename or recolor each segment
