Privacy

Last updated 5 November 2026. ToonRoute is made by the team behind PitStopper. PitStopper has its own privacy page; this one covers ToonRoute.

The short version

Your route is turned into a cartoon world in your own browser. Nothing about you or your route reaches our servers until you ask for a video to be made, and then we keep only what it takes to make it and let you download it, for as short a time as we can.

Your route file

When you open a GPX or FIT file, it is read and built into a world on your own device. It is not uploaded. To build the world, your browser fetches map pieces for the area your route covers:

These requests carry the area or the line being looked up, and like any web request, your IP address. None of them carries your name, your file or anything else from it.

Planning a route

If you plan a route on the map instead, the places you search for go to Photon (run by Komoot), and the points you pick go to PitStopper's routing servers, or brouter.de if ours are busy, to find the way between them.

The weather button

"Use the day's weather" asks Open-Meteo about the weather at the middle of your route on the ride's date. It sends that one point and date, and only when you press the button.

Saved projects and settings

Projects and saved settings are kept in your browser's own storage on your device. We cannot see them. Clearing your browser's data removes them, so download a project if you want to keep it.

When you order a video

To make a video on our servers we need the route and your settings. You watch it being made on the page and download it from there. An email address is optional: give one and we also email you the link when the video is ready. When you order one:

We do not use your email address for anything else. No newsletter, no marketing, and we never sell or share it.

Analytics

We use Umami, an analytics tool we run ourselves. It does not use cookies or follow you across other sites. It counts page views and which features get used (for example, which look or camera is picked), so we know what to improve. If something breaks in the app, it also records the error message, so we can fix it. It does not record your route, your file or your email address.

Cookies

ToonRoute does not set tracking cookies. Your browser's own storage holds your projects, saved settings and a few preferences, such as whether you have seen the Video editor's guide.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, at any time. In practice that is an order in the queue or a video waiting to be downloaded, and both go by themselves within days. Email [email protected] and we will sort it out.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date at the top.
